Summary

This release addresses the recent playback issues along with a number of long-standing bugs.
A massive thanks to @LuanRT for diagnosing the root cause of the playback issues, and to @absidue for providing the fix.

The issue already existed in 0.23.5, there is no changelog entry saying it is fixed, so all you are doing by leaving these comments is telling us that you didn't read the changelog. A release does not mean every possible issue has been fixed, it just means that the things mentioned in the changelog have been fixed.

In the v0.23.5 I always had the original audio track except for the native english videos and even in these there was the option to change audio tracks with these specifics videos. The only videos which doesn't show the option for selecting audio tracks, were always playing the original one.

With the new v0.23.6 this behaviour changed: every single video which the creator opted in to use the audio dub by AI voice-over is using by default the english audio track if the original audio is other than english, or it seems to be falling back to a random audio track when the original audio track is english, without any option to change it even in videos that in the previous beta release the option was available. Until now only a handful of videos I was given the original audio track but the option to change tracks remains lacking, and I can't reproduce the issue consistently and reliably. The same video which got the audio right once, if I reload it again may get the wrong audio track this time.

I've been following the SABR implementation to fix this issues so I'm aware of the limitations everyone are facing here. Reverting back to the v0.23.5 got me back with the right audio tracks but I as everyone else am observing the increase of 403 errors and the youtube anti-bot system being more and more frequently imposed to IP addresses which doesn't log with a account for a while.

For the moment, the best option for me is to remain on the v0.23.5 as the newer version is unusable when videos get changed to chinese or another language I don't learned yet.

Anyways, I appreciate the effort put to fix things with the your spare time and I would like, as always, to thank you all for your time spent developing the FreeTube.

Hi, I'm getting a virus warning from Windows Defender when downloading freetube-0.23.6-beta-win-x64-portable.exe (through the release on GitHub).

Detected: Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.B!ml

I've never had this issue with previous versions of FreeTube. Any idea what's going on?

Subtitles is in the top right corner, is it some setting I have missed? Latest v0.23.6

@stor-sven Which subtitle track is that (please take a screenshot of the subtitle menu)? Different types work differently behind the scenes so it would be good to know what type causes that.

Since "don't autoplay videos" is now fixed after being broken for so long, I keep forgetting it works and the video isn't hanging. 😆
