How to get the status from other instances?

I have been experiencing difficulties retrieving the status of other instances using the API. Each time I attempt to do so, an error message saying "error": "Record not found" is returned. However, the local status appears to be functioning properly. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or assistance in resolving this issue.

One year later, but still, if you haven't resolved it yet, you can use the Search API on Mastodon to search with the entire status URL instead of just the ID, which I assume is instance-specific. This search can return statuses from other instances based on the query you provide.
