With changes to how the default python installation is handled on debian, it's hard to download radian using pip. Ubuntu gives a somewhat scary warning requiring you to pass --break-system-packages. pip and uv require a virtual environment, etc.

It would be really nice if this radian abandoned this out-moded form of packaging. I know it would be a big lift, though. So, sorry for requesting a feature that would take so much effort.

thanks for the feedback. I will need to do some research on how to release it to most major linux distributions. I think the recommended way nowadays to install it is via pipx, let me update the instruction.

FWIW, uv tool install radian has been working well for me.

Yeah, uv works well, though I used uv pip install. Doesn't uv still default to specific environments though? I want to install radian globally so I can just type radian in whatever directory I want.

I think uv tool is exactly what you want: it installs the tool in its own isolated environment and puts the tool in ~/.local/bin so it's available globally if that's in your PATH.

I had created a Homebrew formula for myself, which may also be interesting for other Homebrew users. It requires Homebrew and an installed R distribution (I use the one installed by the official R package, but I believe the Homebrew version of R should also work). After setting up Homebrew, brew install jd-a/brewmods/radian should install radian.
